Benefits of Ductless Mini-Split Systems

Hot or Cold Rooms – Ductless systems allow you to tailor climate control within rooms individually. Maybe you have a room that faces the summer sun and gets much hotter than other rooms in your home, or a room that always seems to catch the arctic winds in the winter. Ductless systems allow you to heat or cool individual areas of your home separately. Instead of trying to warm or cool the entire house, wasting energy, you can concentrate those efforts on the rooms that need it most.

Additions/Renovations – adding or renovating a room is expensive enough without having to figure out how to run expensive ductwork from your existing system to the new area. If you’re renovating a historical or older home that has no ductwork, a ductless system offers heating and cooling without defacing or de-valuing your historical property.

Seasonal Rooms – Why waste heating and cooling utilities on rooms that are only in use for a portion of the year. Enclosed patios, sunrooms, and warm-weather bonus rooms can have their own heat or air conditioning which is used only during the months when you need it most.

Multi-Family Living Spaces – Not everyone can agree on the most comfortable temperature of the house. Some family members prefer it cooler, some prefer it warmer. Ductless systems allow separate zones of a home to be climate-controlled individually. A basement apartment or mother-in-law suite can be controlled by the person who is occupying it without affecting the comfort of others in the rest of the home.

Space-Restricted Homes – With the current housing situation, many people are scaling down to smaller, more compact residences that may not have space to waste on ductwork, utility rooms or large heating and cooling systems. Smaller or tiny homes, can benefit from the space-saving installation of a ductless system.

How does Ductless Air Conditioning and Ductless Heating Work?

Each room or living space with a ductless system has its own air-handling unit and its own temperature control system.

The interior air handling unit, which is wall or ceiling mounted, receives and distributes the heated or cooled air from the heat pump which is mounted on the exterior side of the same wall.

The air handler uses regrifergant to heat or cool the air. The heat pump uses an inverter-driven compressor that heats or cools the refrigerant and sends it back inside to the air handler.
